St Andrew’s is happy to receive new members into our church, remembering the account of the beginning of the Christian Church in the Bible. “… while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.” New members are received either by making a profession of faith or by transfer from another Christian church.
In both cases it is recommended that persons meet with the pastor so they can become familiar with the vision and ministries of the church and to share some of your faith experiences and traditions, so we may better help you connect to ministries that you will enjoy.
Baptism is the first step to membership. “Through the Sacrament of Baptism we are initiated into Christ's holy church. We are incorporated into God's mighty acts of salvation and given new birth through water and the Spirit. All this is God's gift.” If you have not been previously baptized in the Christian church, baptism will be part of the membership service. The United Methodist Church supports baptism for all ages, including children. Remember the words of the Lord Jesus Christ, how he said, "Let the children come to me, do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of God."
Do you renounce the spiritual forces of wickedness, reject the evil powers of this world, and repent of your sin?
Do you accept the freedom and power God gives you to resist evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves?
Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Savior, put your whole trust in his grace, and promise to serve him as your Lord, in union with the church which Christ has opened to people of all ages, nations, and races?
According to the grace given to you, will you remain a faithful member of Christ’s holy church and serve as Christ’s representative in the world?
As a member of St Andrew’s, will you faithfully participate in its ministries by your prayers, your presence, your gifts, and your service?
